Dealers' prices in Lahore as of September 2026, a sq ft, for the stone alone. Floor pieces are about 3/4 in thick; stair pieces and counter slabs are thicker and bigger, which is why they cost more. Fixing adds Rs 50 to 80 a sq ft and grinding and polishing Rs 25 to 40.
How it is worked out
From floor, stairs and counters to sq ft, bags and rupees
The stone is measured area by area: the floor by its length and width, each step by the stair's width across its tread and riser, skirting by its length and height, and counters and sills by their length and depth. A staircase of 18 steps, 3.5 ft wide, with 11 in treads and 7 in risers, takes 94.5 sq ft.
Then the cutting waste, since stone is cut to fit at every wall and some pieces break. The calculator uses the Material Planner's allowances: tiles up to 24 in take 7% for cutting and 2% for breakage, 9% in all, and slabs cut to the room on site 12%. Stairs, counters and sills take 15%, because their pieces are cut to a tread's depth or round a sink, and the offcuts are too narrow to use.
Marble is laid on a bed of 1:4 cement and sand, 1 in thick, with neat cement slurry brushed on before each piece goes down. The cement and sand follow the same rules as the cement and material calculators: the wet bed is multiplied by 1.3 for the dry materials and split one part cement to four of sand, and cement is bought in whole bags with 2% for wastage. That is about 2.4 bags of cement and 9.1 cft of sand for every 100 sq ft. Skirting is stuck on with the slurry alone.
The cost is the stone at its price a sq ft for what you buy, the fixing for what is laid, grinding and polishing for marble floors and stairs, and the cement and sand. The same stone costs more for stairs and more again for counters, because those pieces are thicker and cut from bigger blocks, so each is priced from its own column of the dealers' lists. Granite and counter slabs come polished; a marble floor is laid rough, ground flat once it has set, then polished.

Terms you will hear
- Tread and riser
- The tread is the part of a step you stand on, the riser the upright face under it. Stone goes on both, so a step takes its width times the tread and the riser added together.
- Nosing
- The front edge of a tread, rounded or bevelled and standing a little proud of the riser. It is cut from the tread piece, which is one reason stair stone wastes more.
- Skirting
- A strip of stone, usually 4 in high, along the foot of the walls, cut from the floor stone and stuck on with cement slurry.
- Grinding and polishing
- Marble floors are laid rough and ground flat by machine once set, which takes out the lips between pieces, then polished in stages to a shine. Granite comes polished from the factory.
- Slurry
- Neat cement mixed with water to a cream and brushed onto the bed just before a piece is laid, so the stone bonds to it.
- Tiles and slabs
- Tiles are cut to size at the factory, such as 12 x 24 in. Slabs are big pieces cut to the room on site, which gives fewer joints but more waste.

As of September 2026, floor marble costs about Rs 65 to 75 a sq ft for Sunny Grey, Rs 70 to 80 for Badal, Rs 85 to 100 for Tavera, Rs 160 to 175 for Botticino and Rs 330 to 345 for Ziarat White. The same stone costs more for stairs (Botticino Rs 230 to 245) and more again as a kitchen slab (Rs 340 to 360). Fixing adds Rs 50 to 80 a sq ft and grinding and polishing Rs 25 to 40.
What is the granite price per sq ft in Pakistan?
About Rs 350 to 600 a sq ft for local black granite, Rs 500 to 1,200 for Indian granite and Rs 800 to 2,500 for Brazilian, as of September 2026. Granite is cut from slabs whatever it is for, so a floor, a step and a counter cost about the same a sq ft; the price moves with the slab's colour, thickness and finish.
What is the marble fixing rate per sq ft?
Contractors charge Rs 50 to 80 a sq ft to fix a marble floor or skirting, and grinding and polishing Rs 25 to 40 on top. Stairs, counters and sills take more cutting and edge work, so the calculator starts them at Rs 100 a sq ft. The cement and sand for the bed are extra: about 2.4 bags of cement and 9.1 cft of sand for every 100 sq ft.
How much marble do I need for stairs?
Each step takes the stair's width times its tread and riser added together. 18 steps, 3.5 ft wide, with 11 in treads and 7 in risers, come to 94.5 sq ft; with 15% for cutting, buy 109 sq ft. In Botticino stair pieces at Rs 238 a sq ft that is about Rs 25,942 for the stone. Add the landings to the floor.
How much wastage should I add for marble?
9% for marble tiles up to 24 in and 12% for slabs cut on site, the cutting allowance the Material Planner uses, with 2% for breakage. Stairs, counters and sills take about 15%, since their offcuts are too narrow to use. Lay a diagonal pattern or match veins across a big floor and allow more.
How much cement and sand does a marble floor need?
On a 1 in bed of 1:4 cement and sand with slurry under each piece, about 2.4 bags of cement and 9.1 cft of sand for every 100 sq ft, with wastage. A thicker bed, used where the floor is out of level, takes more of both: give its thickness under Cutting waste and the bed.
