The worked example's wall round each plot: 9 in brick, 7 ft 9 in high, with 13.5 in brick pillars every 10 ft, a brick footing, a plinth beam, plaster both sides and a coping, and a 12 ft gate. Plots are the usual sides for a 225 sq ft marla. Costs are at Lahore prices of September 2026 with the worked-out labour.

How it is worked out

From plot size to cost a running foot

The wall's length is the plot's four sides less the gate: a 10 marla plot of 35 x 65 ft is 200 ft round, 188 ft with a 12 ft gate. Pillars go at each corner, on each side of the gate and no more than 10 ft apart between, which gives it 23. The wall itself runs between them.

Above ground, the calculator counts the wall and pillars as brickwork or blockwork up to the coping: 13.5 in square brick pillars, or 9 x 9 in RCC columns that go down to the bottom of the foundation. Below ground, the foundation is a strip under the whole run, as wide and as deep as you give it: brickwork on a bed of 1:4:8 lean concrete, or a 1:3:6 PCC strip. For a stepped brick footing give its average width: one stepping from 22.5 in to 13.5 in averages 18 in. A plinth beam, 9 in deep and at least 9 in wide, sits on the foundation at ground level and ties the pillars together.

Each part is worked out the way a full estimate works it: bricks at 13.5 to a cft of wall with mortar making up 30% of a 9 in wall, concrete and mortar turned into dry cement, sand and crush, plaster 0.5 in thick in 1:4, and a 3 in 1:2:4 coping 1 in over each face. Columns and the beam have four 1/2 in (4 sutar) bars and 1/4 in (2 sutar) ties every 6 in, weighed with the steel weight calculator's bar weights, plus 5% for laps and bends. The parts are added up, then 5% more bricks, 2% more cement, 5% more sand and crush and 3% more steel are bought for breakage and waste.

Prices start at PBS's for the city you choose: cement for the week of 24 September 2026, and bricks, blocks, sand, crush and 1/2 in Grade 40 steel for August 2026. Labour is worked out for your wall at a thekedar's September 2026 rates, the middle of each published range: Rs 8,500 per 1,000 bricks laid in 9 in work (Rs 6,000 in a 4.5 in wall), Rs 18.5 a sq ft of plaster, Rs 2,150 per 100 cft dug, and concrete, shuttering and steel fixing by the unit. No rate for laying blocks is published, so a sq ft of block wall is counted at what a sq ft of 4.5 in brickwork costs to lay, about Rs 30. Put in your own thekedar's rate a running ft if you have one.

Terms you will hear

Running ft
Feet along the length of the wall, whatever its height. Boundary walls are priced by it: the cost of one foot of wall, foundation to coping.
Pillar
A thicker post in the wall that stiffens it, at the corners, the gate and every 8 to 10 ft between. A brick pillar is usually 13.5 in square; an RCC column is cast in concrete round steel bars.
Footing
The wider base of the wall below ground, which spreads its weight over the soil. A brick footing steps in from the bottom to the wall above.
PCC
Plain cement concrete, with no steel in it: the lean bed under a footing, or a whole strip foundation.
Plinth beam
A reinforced concrete beam along the wall at ground level. It ties the pillars together and stops the wall cracking where the ground settles unevenly.
Coping
The capping along the top of the wall, here a thin strip of concrete a little wider than the wall, that throws rain off and keeps it out of the brickwork.

What does a boundary wall cost per foot in Pakistan?

About Rs 6,245 a running ft in Lahore for a 9 in brick wall 7 ft 9 in high with brick pillars, a brick footing, a plinth beam, plaster both sides and a coping, at PBS prices checked in September 2026: Rs 4,788 of materials and Rs 1,457 of labour. The same wall in 4.5 in brick comes to about Rs 4,810 a running ft, and a 6 in block wall with RCC columns on a PCC strip in Karachi about Rs 4,041.

What does a boundary wall for a 10 marla plot cost?

A 10 marla plot of 35 x 65 ft takes 188 ft of wall with a 12 ft gate. In 9 in brick, 7 ft 9 in high, that is about Rs 1,173,973 (11.74 lakh) at Lahore prices, labour included. A 5 marla plot (25 x 45 ft) comes to about Rs 801,166 (8.01 lakh) and a 1 kanal plot (50 x 90 ft) about Rs 1,664,564 (16.65 lakh). If a neighbour has already built a side wall, give the length you are building instead.

How many bricks does a boundary wall take?

The 10 marla wall above takes 22,018 bricks with 5% for breakage, about 117 a running ft: the wall, the pillars and the footing. A 9 in wall takes about 10 bricks a sq ft of its face, a 4.5 in wall about 5, before the pillars and the footing.

How much cement and sand does a boundary wall need?

The 10 marla wall takes 131 bags of cement, 784 cft of sand (about 7.8 trolleys of 100 cft) and 210 cft of crush, with 312 kg of steel for the plinth beam. Without a plinth beam and coping it needs no crush but the footing's bed, and no steel.

How high can a boundary wall be?

It depends on the scheme. DHA Lahore's 2026 regulations allow 7 ft from the crown of the road next to it, with up to 2 ft 6 in of electric fence on top, and a coping that may stand out up to 4 in towards the road. DHA Karachi's 2020 regulations ask for 8 to 10 ft from the crown of the road, with a 2 ft iron barrier allowed on top, and Faisalabad's 2020 regulations allow 7 ft from plinth level. Check your own society's or authority's rules before you build.

Should a boundary wall be 9 inch or 4.5 inch?

A 9 in wall stands on its own and lasts; a 4.5 in wall is about 23% cheaper here but needs pillars no more than 8 to 10 ft apart to stay upright, and cracks more easily. In DHA Lahore the first owner to build a common wall may build it 9 in thick, using 4.5 in of each plot. For a wall over about 7 ft, or on filled ground, ask an engineer.

How deep should a boundary wall foundation be?

On firm natural ground a boundary wall is usually set 2 ft 6 in to 3 ft below ground on a footing about twice the wall's thickness. On filled or soft ground it must go down to firm soil, or the wall will crack as the fill settles. The calculator starts at 2 ft 6 in deep and 1 ft 6 in wide; change them to your drawings.

What does the cost not include?

The gate, grills, an electric fence, paint, and clearing or levelling the site. Nor does it allow for a deeper foundation where the soil is poor, or for bringing earth in: the earth filling calculator works that out.
